What is Chiropractic?

To me chiropractic is more than just the treatment or the adjustment you deliver, its the experience that the individual has throughout. The conversations that occur, the recommendations you give and the habits you can alter.

What happens during the session is just the tip of the iceberg of what the patient can achieve.

My first experience of chiropractic was through my own family and as a career it really just ‘fell on my lap’. I was determined to become a criminal lawyer, but very quickly realised this career didn’t suit my personality type at all.  So after doing a week of work experience at a chiropractic clinic, I knew this was much better suited to me and my empathic nature.

This is what I mean when I say Chiropractic is more than just the adjustment.  When someone comes in with pain and symptoms. There can be so many different root causes.

A lot of them have an emotional element to them. Chiropractic is hands-on care, but it is bigger than that.  While I am treating, I am listening to the complaints, the whinges and the whines about the day or the husband or the children.  People need a chance to offload those daily stressors in a safe space.

Through the development of my own skills and introducing care to newborns and children in practice.  My view on chiropractic has changed slightly, care can be introduced at such young ages and set children up for happy, well adjusted lives.

They are the perfect example as to why chiropractic is and (in my opinion) should be preventative care rather than reactive care.  Addressing the smaller issues before they can become big problems.

Chiropractic assesses and examines the whole individual. In looking at the big picture we can get a better understanding as to how that individual works or moves and why they might be feeling how they do.

I would say it is my job to facilitate the changes that the body is designed to make.  It is a 50/50 split of me creating the right environment for change and the other 50 is up to the individual’s body to actually make the change happen. I believe that chiropractic helps alter these imbalances or pain generators so that the body can recover itself.

We have the capacity to create change, we just need a helping hand along the way.
